Too Many Mistake, Too Little Alexander Equals Rams Loss
You don’t need to be some football prodigy or have a sophisticated understanding of football strategy to get to the heart of the Rams troubles this season.
Let’s start with the main culprit, which continues to mistake-prone football; fumbles, turnovers, muffed punt returns, mental lapses and questionable offensive play calling. The St. Louis Rams are guilty as charged.
And why the Rams are so reluctant to utilize WR Denario Alexander more frequently escapes me, particularly since he (on the rare occasion that he is utilized) stretches the field for the Rams and consistently comes up with big plays.
Case in point, on Monday Night Football, Alexander proved to be one of the few bright spots in an otherwise lackluster 28-16 loss, hauling in a scintillating 68-yard catch, then a 19-yard touchdown.
Otherwise, the Rams offense stalled in the redzone all night long and deferred to the field goal unit for offense. You can’t do that and win in the NFL.
When Alexander returned to the bench, the Rams returned to the same, nonproductive, business as usual team.
To make matters worse, the Giants weren’t particularly exciting or productive. They just played good enough to beat the struggling Rams; 4 touchdowns and that was all she wrote.
Maybe when Steven Jackson mends (hopefully sooner than later) and the Rams take stock of their errors, perhaps coach Spagnuolo and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels can make the necessary adjustments to right the Ram’s sinking vessel before it is too late.
Let’s face it, the schedule doesn’t get any easier and now is the time to, at the very least, utilize Rams talent in such a way that this young team has a fighting chance.
