Rams Retire Bruce’s Jersey with Home Victory
by James T. Ingram for OhhMyOnline.net
The St. Louis Rams redeemed themselves, on week 8, with a convincing (if not pretty) 20-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at the Edward Jones Dome. It was the Rams’ fourth consecutive home victory, re-establishing home field as a true advantage for the franchise and bringing their overall record to 4-4 for the season.
QB Sam Bradford definitely put in the best performance of his young career, with precise passing for 184 yards (including 2 TD’s) and a calm and poised presence in the pocket. The Rams defense forced four turnovers, smothered the run and pressured Panthers QB Matt Moore.
It seems that Coach Spagnuolo has corrected both attitudinal and personnel issues which have haunted the Rams for that past three seasons and is guiding the young Rams team in a positive direction, and with a team that has been plagued by injuries all season long.
However the true test will come soon with the Rams playing four out of five of their next games in enemy territory.
On a lighter note, it was also a day to celebrate the stellar career of Rams WR Isaac Bruce, whose number 80 jersey was officially retired in a pre-game ceremony. Rams players even revived the old “bob ‘n weave” end zone celebration in honor of “Rev. Ike”, following a game clinching interception by safety Oshiomogho Atogwe.
Next week the Rams will enjoy a much needed bye, in week 9, to heal a very banged-up Rams team.
