Rams Step Up in 28-23 Loss to Saints
The pundits predicted that this game would be a blow-out; that the Rams had no chance against an undefeated New Orleans Saints team. And to make matters worse, the Rams faced their third straight undefeated team at home, an NFL first.
Apparently the Rams never received that memo. Yes, the Rams (1-8) did lose to the Saints (9-0), but not without a fight.
At halftime the 14-14 score said it all: “It ain’t over til’ it’s over”.
The Rams showed flashes of brilliance throughout the game. Defensively, Oshiomogho Atogwe had the sellout crowd on its feet with interceptions and a ferocious goal line hit to Saints WR Marques Colston, forcing him to fumble as he attempted a “Reggie Bush-like” leap into the endzone.
Offensively, Steven Jackson was dominate, running for 131 yards and rookie WR Brandon Gibson stepped up, catching 7 passes for 93 yards after a knee injury sidelined WR Keenan Burton.
Gibson was acquired in an October 20 trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Unfortunately the game came down to a Hail Mary pass, to the endzone, by Rams QB Marc Bulger which fell incomplete, resulting in a 28-23 loss by the Rams.
A loss is a loss, but in this case no one in the Rams locker room hung their heads. In fact there was clearly a spirit of encouragement that the team had exceeded expectations and made major improvements in their play.
Next up, a home game against former Ram hero Kurt Warner and his Arizona Cardinals. The game has a 3:05 kickoff.
