LION TAMERS

“Action Jackson” Carries Rams to First Victory
By James T. Ingram

FINALLY the St. Louis Rams have ended the long nightmare of winless Sundays with a 17-10 victory over the struggling Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

The difference this time was a fired-up Steven Jackson who, time after time, carried the Rams (and several Lions players) on his back with run after impressive run.

Jackson ended the day with a season high of 149 yards on 22 carries, capping off the victory with a 25-yard breakaway TD run to win the game with 1:38 left.

But, there were also entertaining moments along the way. Late in the first half, the Rams faked a long field goal, with holder Donnie Jones flipping the ball to kicker Josh Brown who hit a wide open Daniel Fells for a 36-yard TD.

Oh, no they didn’t, a RAMS trick play??? Oh, yes they did, and (this time) IT WORKED!!

QB Marc Bulger was steady, going 17 for 35, for 176 yards on the day.

So, the Rams go to their bye week with something to smile about before returning to face a far better team in the New Orleans Saints, on their home turf, November 15.

Hopefully they (and the St. Louis fans) will return with a new attitude and a new resolve to gain new respectability in the NFL. It’s a long road, but starting with a 1-7 record feels better than 0-8 any day.
