RAMS KEEP HOPE ALIVE IN 2009

Anticipated Home Opener Against Green Bay
By James T. Ingram for OhhMyOnline.net

The Rams home opener against the Packers finds them in a hopeful position. Following an 0-2 start against the Seahawks and the Redskins, glimmers of potential still cause Rams to hope that a new head coach, Steve Spagnuolo, a new infusion of talent in the off-season and a new attitude will give the Rams a fresh spark of much-needed energy.

Week one against division rival Seattle, while disappointing, showed flashes of potential, on the defensive side of the ball, especially from last years’ team MVP Oshiomogho Atogwe.

Week two resulted in a two point loss to the Redskins in a contest which could have gone either way and an impressive outing by RB Steven Jackson who, despite facing defenses stacking eight in the box, still finished with 104 yards rushing on 17 carries, with one outstanding 58 yard run.

Jackson’s yardage placed him fourth on the Rams’ all-time list of yards rushed, with 5,462. Marc Bulger, with 118 career TD’s is now tied with Norm Van Brocklin for third among Rams all-time greatest quarterbacks.

With a more balanced offensive attack, particularly in the red zone, coach Spags and the Rams have a more than good opportunity to make the Packers their first casualty of the still young season.
