TEX MESS

Rams Hard Work Comes Up Short
By James T. Ingram

Well, no one can say that the St. Louis Rams are loafing on the job. Despite an attendance of only 46,256 (the lowest since the Rams moved from Los Angeles) and a season that has been, to be generous, underwhelming, the Rams played as if they had something to prove before the sparse St. Louis crowd.

And, frankly, the Rams could have been lackluster without much finger pointing. They had all of the excuses. Marc Bulger is done for the season, second string QB Kyle Boller is banged up. RB Steven Jackson was battling a sore back and an outbreak of swine flu forced the cancellation of Thursday’s practice.

Yet the Rams, led by rookie QB Keith Null, fought to an impressive 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans, making the Rams 1-13 for the season.

The extra effort was clearly out respect for coach Steve Spagnuolo, given the clearly more talented Texan roster. However, you can only squeeze so much blood from a turnip.

Steven Jackson limped and hobbled his way to 123 yards, but Houston’s passing attack was simply too much with 367 receiving yards – all in the air.
